2014 Island Classic Preview

January 22, 2014  •  Leave a Comment

The 2014 International Island Classic runs over three days at the picturesque Phillip Island circuit from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 January.

The feature event for the weekend is the International Challenge. Teams from Australia, UK, New Zealand and USA will battle it out for the win.

The Australian team includes perennial competitor Steve Martin who will be joined by Shawn Giles, Brendan Roberts, Robbie Phyllis, Malcolm Campbell, and Cam Donald.

The UK team will be led on track by Isle of Mann TT ace John McGuiness, ably assisted by Jeremy McWilliams, Gary Johnson and late entrant Ryan Farquhar who replaces Steve Brogan.

Riders will mount such legendary bikes as the Suzuki Katana, Suzuki XR69, Yamaha TZ and Suzuki GSX1100.

To complete the weekends racing more than 450 entrants will compete over the weekend on bikes and sidecars that range in age from 1990 back to early last century!

The weather is sure to play a part with the forecast for Friday indicating heavy rain. Hopes are high for a dry race day on Sunday but by then the weather may have decided the fate of a number of competitors.

Keep following this blog for regular updates over the weekend.
