Welcome to race day at Phillip Island. The weather is looking great for Round One of the 2014 World Superbike Championships. Lots of activity throughout pitlane with both Superbike and Supersport warm-up sessions underway. The crowd is building as is the tension. We will be underway shortly!
Bryan Staring has taken 10th place in qualifying for the first round of 2014 World Supersport at Phillip Island. Riding for the RivaMoto team on a Honda CBR600RR, Staring beat a fast finishing Florian Marino by 3/1,000 sec. The team were happy with the result, however Staring was hoping for more.

French rider Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia Racing Team Aprilia RSV4 Factory) has taken pole position for Race One of the 2014 World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island. Guintoli beat Davide Giugliano (Ducati Superbike Team Ducati 1199 Panigale R) by 97/1000 sec with Guintoli's team mate Marco Melandri a further 2/10 sec back in third. Eugene Laverty (Volcom Crescent Suzuki, Suzuki GSX-R 1000) makes up the front row of the grid.
Leading rider coming into qualifying Alex Lowes (Volcom Crescent Suzuki, Suzuki GSX-R 1000) leads off the second row from Jonothon Rea (PATA Honda World Superbike Honda CBR1000RR), Loris Baz (Kawasaki Racing Team Kawasaki ZX-10R), and Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team Kawasaki ZX-10R). Sykes crashed in Superpole Two at Lukey heights, lucky to avoid a highside.
Combined results for World Supersport saw Turk rider Kenan Soguoglu (MAHI Racing Team India Kawasaki ZX-6R) take fastest time a bare 1/100 second ahead of Netherlands rider Michael VD Mark (PATA Honda World Supersport Honda CBR600RR) with US Rider Patrick Jacobsen (Kawasaki Intermoto Pony Express Kawasaki ZX-6R) 0.3 sec further adrift in third.
Riders have been allocated positions in Superpole for Round 1 of World Superbikes at Phillip Island.
Superpole One is run first and is made up of riders in positions 11 - 20.
The top 10 riders plus the fastest two from Superpole One will compete in Superpole Two.
Fastest was Alex Lowes (Volcom Crescent Suzuki, Suzuki GSX-R1000) with team mate Eugene Laverty 0.25 sec behind in second. Third was Davide Giugliano (Ducati Superbike Team Ducati Panigale R) with his team mate Chas Davies fourth.
Top EVO rider was Nicolas Canepa (Althea racing Ducati 1199 Panigale R EVO) in a very creditable sixth.
